Executive Vice-President and General Counsel

John Wagster has served as Counsel to Freeborders since its inception and joined the company as General Counsel in 2007.   He also served as Managing Director of Freeborders' PLM Software Division until its sale in 2008. 

Prior to joining Freeborders, John assisted clients with matters relating to federal administrative law and international business transactions in the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  He has many years experience helping U.S. companies forge cross-cultural contractual arrangements around the world using industry best practices and western style contracts.  The key to his successful approach is letting the business terms rather than the legal structure of a business opportunity define the relationship.

John also served as a professional staff member of the United States Senate Committee on the Budget and as Staff Director of a Subcommittee of the United States Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs.  From these positions he specialized in non-Medicare health care funding and led numerous investigations into waste, fraud and abuse in federal programs including health care reimbursement, the General Services Administration and the Department of Defense.   Investigations led by Wagster resulted in revised spending priorities and program changes resulting in millions of dollars of savings to the federal treasury.

John lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife and two children and serves on the Board of Directors of a number of non-profit entities including: the International Business Council of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce; the Nations Ministry Center, a refugee assistance organization; and the Delta Waterfowl Association.   John is also an Elder in the Presbyterian church and enjoys working on international relief projects, hunting and fishing.
